QPR could be stuck with overpaid flops, admits Harry Redknapp
QPR boss Harry Redknapp says the Hoops may be stuck with some of their big earner if they are relegated to the Championship
Harry Redknapp believes Queens Park Rangers could struggle to offload some of their biggest earners if the Hoops are relegated to the Championship.
The 66-year-old’s predecessor Mark Hughes signed big-name stars such as Júlio Cesar, Esteban Granero and Park Ji-Sung last summer, inflating QPR’s wage bill.
Redknapp also signed Loic Remy and Chris Samba, who is reported to be on £100,000-a-week, during the January transfer window.
The west London side are 10 points from safety with five games remaining after a 2-0 loss to Everton virtually extinguished their slim hopes of survival.
“They won’t go [the high earners],” said Redknapp.
“How are you going to get rid of them? That’s your biggest problem. They all have contracts. How are they going to go? Who is going to pay them what they are earning here? It is going to be very hard to shift them.”
Redknapp also refuted the suggestion QPR are too good to drop down to the Championship with the likes of Cesar, Granero and Park in their squad, all of whom have impressed during spells at some of the biggest clubs in Europe.
“You say [they are] talented players but I don’t know,” he added. “Are they that talented?
“I hear that all the time that if they get relegated they want to go because they don’t want to play in the Championship.
“But if they f**king played better they would not be in the Championship so that’s a load of cobblers.”
