Harry Redknapp has hinted that he would be interested in bringing Rio Ferdinand to Queens Park Rangers in the summer transfer window.

The 35-year-old centre-half called time on his Manchester United career last month after failing to agree a new deal with the 20-time English champions.

And QPR manager Redknapp, who brought Ferdinand through the West Ham United youth ranks, talked up the former England international’s qualities.

“Rio Ferdinand is a very good player,” Redknapp told TalkSport.

“I signed Rio at 14 [for West Ham]. He’s a fantastic player and a great pro.

“He’s probably been the best centre-back in Europe in the last few years. What a career he’s had at Manchester United.

“You need good lads who know the game. They can run the dressing room. It’s an easy game when you’ve got good players.”

Redknapp added that he will be looking to add experience to his QPR squad in the summer after the Hoops’s disastrous two-year spell in the Premier League between 2011 and 2013.

“QPR need a bit of experience,” Redknapp added. “Most importantly, though, we need players we can rely on and who are prepared to have a go.
“Last time there were lots of players brought in who were not really up to the job.

“We have to make sure we’ve got the right sort of lads this time around.”
