Harry Redknapp has hinted he will look to strengthen his attacking options at Queens Park Rangers in January but insisted there will not be wholesale at Loftus Road.

The 65-year-old was officially unveiled as Mark Hughes’ successor on Monday morning after watching from the stands as the Hoops were beaten 3-1 at Manchester United on Saturday to keep them rooted to the foot of the table.

Redknapp says he may look to bolster the west Londoners’ front-line when the transfer window opens in January but maintains that it is up to him to get the best out of the players currently at his disposal.

“Let’s be honest, the owners have been fantastic,” said Redknapp, whose side travel to Sunderland on Tuesday. “They’ve brought players in during the summer and they couldn’t have done any more. The owners have spent a lot of money.

“Now it’s up to the people who run the team to get the best out of what is here. I’m sure if there’s one or two loans in the window, we’ll be interested, but there’s not going to be wholesale spending.

“It’s obvious we’re not overloaded with strikers. Bobby Zamora is out long-term and Andy Johnson has got an injury – they’re two good players to have missing so that’s certainly an area where we are short.

“The window is still some way away, and we’ve got lots of games to pick up points.”

QPR have been linked with a move for former England captain David Beckham, who recently confirmed he will quit LA Galaxy this year.

But although Redknapp admits he is a keen admirer of the 37-year-old, he has not discussed a potential transfer with the ex-Manchester United star.

“I got a lovely text from David the other night, just talking about wishing me all the best here,” said Redknapp.

“He’s a top professional but I’ve never discussed the possibility of him coming [to QPR]. To have him at any football club would be great. He would be a great influence on the team and the club. [He’s] such a great pro and a top-class man as well.

“I’ve not discussed players with the chairman at the man. There’s a group here with loads of ability and we’ve got to get the best out of them.”
