Rafael Benítez pleads with Chelsea fans to put their frosty relationship with the Spaniard to one side and get behind the team

Rafael Benítez has once again pleaded with Chelsea supporters to put their frosty relationship with the Spaniard to one side and get behind the team.
Benítez risked irking Blues supporters further following his sensational outburst on Wednesday, which was aimed at the fans who continue to make known their discontent at his appointment known at games through chants and banners.
Benítez also slammed the club’s decision to appoint him as ‘interim’ boss as as “massive mistake” before confirming that he will leave Stamford Bridge at the end of the season.
But the former Liverpool boss called for fans to back the team as he bids to guide them to a top-four finish.
“I am part of the team so I need the supporters behind the team – that is really important,” said the Chelsea boss.
“I’m part of the team because I have to make decisions. I will carry on doing my best until the last day, don’t have any doubts about that.
“I will do it with education, respect and principals, because it’s the way I was taught when I was in the academy with Real Madrid.”
Benítez insists is still determined to lead the Blues to FA Cup and Europa League glory before leaving the club in the summer.
He continued: “When I decided to come here it was because I have ambition, I have passion for the game and I want to win trophies.
“It was a great opportunity to go to a top side that competes in different competitions.
“We still have two trophies to play for and I will try to do my best and win these trophies.
“We want to be in the top four and if we stick together it will be easier. The message is clear, we have to stick together.”
Benítez, whose side host West Brom on Saturday, added: “I have confidence that what I’m doing is right and I will try to do my best – until the last minute. Don’t worry about that.”
