Rafael Nadal has insisted that his main priority for the 2015 season is qualifying for the ATP World Tour Finals – and not winning a grand slam.

The Spaniard is in action at the Aegon Championships at Queen’s Club this week as he continues his preparations for Wimbledon, which gets under way later this month.

Nadal struggled to find consistent form in the first few months of the year after undergoing surgery to remove his appendix late last year.

The 29-year-old won his first title on grass since 2010 by beating Viktor Troicki in the Mercedes Cup final in Stuttgart on Sunday.

My main goal is finish the season healthy

And the 14-time grand slam champion now says that his focus is on finding and maintaining consistency.

“I said before, my goal is qualify for the ATP World Tour Finals at the end of the season now,” said Nadal on Monday.

“My main goal is finish the season healthy and try to have the chance to play the full season.

“I am confident that I can play, that I’m going to have a much better second half of the season than I did in the first six months.

“I have the motivation to do it, and I feel my mentality and my body are ready for it.

“Then, if I’m able to play the full season, I hope to finish in a good position in the rankings and have the chance to start 2016 stronger.

“That’s my main goal. Winning grand slams or not, I won enough into my career. Fourteen are enough. I am sure that I’m going to keep trying my best.”
