Rafael Van der Vaart’s Tottenham switch confirmed

Tottenham were given a huge boost today after the Premier League sanctioned their signing of Real Madrid midfielder Rafael Van der Vaart following a deadline day scramble.
Harry Redknapp’s Spurs were involved in a race against the clock to secure the Holland international’s services on Tuesday after technical problems had delayed the finalising of the necessary paperwork. However, the Premier League confirmed the £8m transfer had gone through on Wednesday afternoon.
“The Premier League can confirm the transfer of Rafael van der Vaart’s registration from Real Madrid to Tottenham Hotspur,” read a Premier League statement.
The 27-year-old midfielder admitted the deal was concluded at a frantic pace, but says he is extremely pleased with the move.
“The interest from Tottenham came very quick and I did not have much time to think,” van der Vaart said. “But I want to play football again and if possible every week, with a beautiful club. I’m totally happy.
“I am excited about playing in England. Whether it suits my style remains to be seen, but I think a good footballer can adapt and I am very proud of this transfer.”
