Rickie Lambert wants to push Liverpool forward to league title
Liverpool striker Rickie Lambert wants to help the Reds improve and win the Premier League title next season
Rickie Lambert hopes to push Liverpool forward to the Premier League title next season.
The 32-year-old England international completed a £4m switch to his boyhood club after putting pen to paper on a deal with the Reds on Monday.
I hope we can just help them push on again and clinch the title
And Lambert, who scored 117 goals in 235 appearances for Southampton, is dreaming of winning the top-flight crown with his new club.
“To help push the club forward,” Lambert told Liverpool’s website.
“They had an unbelievable season and just missed out. Whatever role Brendan has for me, I hope we can just help them push on again and clinch the title.
“That is everyone’s dream and that is what we’ve got to believe we can do.”
He added: “Brendan knows what the club means to me, there isn’t much sentiment in football and I don’t think this move is anything to do with that.
“He sees what he can benefit from signing me and he knows that I’ll be trying my best every minute I play for this club.”
Lambert believes Southampton’s style of play is similar to Liverpool, and as a result, the striker should settle in quickly at the Reds.
“I did think the two teams were similar last season and the way they played was similar,” Lambert added.
“I would like to think that will help me adapt to the Liverpool style. I believe good players can player with good players.
“It could take a little time to adapt to the players around me but I’m sure it won’t take too long to find out what the manager wants from me and what the players need from me.”
