Robbie Fowler: I could tell Daniel Sturridge would be a star at Man City
Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler says he could tell Daniel Sturridge would become a star when the pair were together at Manchester City
Robbie Fowler says he knew Liverpool’s Daniel Sturridge would blossom into a top player after training with the Reds striker at Manchester City.
The Liverpool legend trained with the England international during his spell at the Citizens before sealing an emotional return to the Merseyside outfit in 2006.
Sturridge, 23, has scored three Premier League goals this season, taking his tally to 13 strikes in 17 top-flight appearances following his £12m move from Chelsea in January.
And Fowler admits he is excited to see Sturridge’s partnership with fellow forwards Philippe Coutinho and Luis Suárez develop over the coming season.
“Daniel Sturridge is brilliant. It is a good sign for Liverpool that without Luis Suarez, Liverpool have won six of seven Premier League games,” Fowler told the Daily Mail.
“The partnership with Suarez, Coutinho and a few other players will be a sight to behold because they are superb players.
“Daniel has fantastic feet, his movement is good, he can hold the ball up and he can score special goals.
“I was lucky enough to train with Daniel when I was at Manchester City. He was a young lad and about 15 at the time. You could see then how good he was going to become. He had a little bit of everything.
“He has come to Liverpool and he has now taken to the club and the fans have taken to him.”
