Roberto Mancini rubbishes the speculation suggesting he is to be replaced by Manuel Pellegrini at Manchester City this summer
Roberto Mancini has rubbished the speculation suggesting he is to be replaced by Manuel Pellegrini at Manchester City this summer after watching his side lose the FA Cup final to Wigan Athletic.
“It’s rubbish this speculation,” said the Italian after the 1-0 defeat by the Latics at Wembley. “I will still be here next season. It is rubbish.”
A 90th-minute Ben Watson header won Wigan their first major trophy after City had Pablo Zabaleta sent off in the second half.
And Mancini, whose side were largely outplayed by a battling Wigan side at Wembley, could not pinpoint the reason for the Citizens’ below-par display.
“It was a good game,” he continued. “They scored in the last minute and for us it was very difficult. We didn’t play very well, I don’t know why.
“We had a chance because we had two or three incredible chances but in the end we didn’t play like we usually do.
“I’m disappointed. We conceded a goal in the last seconds in a game where we didn’t play very well, but we didn’t deserve to lose. But that’s football.”
