Roberto Martinez more tactical than David Moyes, reveals Ross Barkley
Everton midfielder Ross Barkley claims Toffees boss Roberto Martinez is more tactical than David Moyes
Ross Barkley has revealed that Everton manager Roberto Martinez is “more tactical” than his predecessor David Moyes.
The Spaniard has made an impressive impact since replacing the Scot last summer, with the Toffees still in the hunt for a fourth-place finish.
Roberto Martinez has come in and given everyone confidence. He’s a positive man and doesn’t say anything negative
Martinez has managed Barkley’s integration into the Everton first-team, with the England international scoring three goals in 25 Premier League games.
And the 20-year-old spoke about the subtle differences between Martinez and under-pressure Manchester United manager David Moyes.
“He’s similar to David Moyes as they both like to take over the training session and be the main man. But Martinez is more tactical,” Barkley told Match of the Day magazine.
“We do a lot more tactical work which is good for me because I’m young and still learning.”
He added: “Roberto Martinez has come in and given everyone confidence. He’s a positive man and doesn’t say anything negative.
“I’m an Evertonian so I want the club to be up at the top end of the table and it’s great to be a part of it.”
Barkley revealed that Real Madrid legend Zinedine Zidane and United striker Wayne Rooney were among his idols growing up.
“My hero was Zinedine Zidane,” said Barkley.
“I used to watch a lot Spanish football and videos of him. There was also Paul Scholes, and Wayne Rooney, because he came through the Everton system at a young age, like I have.”
