Rodgers gives latest Liverpool injury update ahead of Arsenal trip
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is hopeful that Glen Johnson could return for next weekend's clash with Swansea
Brendan Rodgers is hopeful that Glen Johnson could return to action for next weekend’s clash with Swansea City.
The England international has not played for the Reds since the 2-2 draw against Aston Villa last month due to a number of niggling injuries.
And although the 29-year-old will not be ready for Sunday’s trip to Arsenal in the FA Cup fifth round, Rodgers has been pleased with the defender’s progress.
“Glen Johnson’s working well but I don’t think he’ll be ready for the game this weekend,” said Rodgers.
“If he has a good week next week he’ll be very close but he looks fresher and fitter. The period that he has out has really helped him and he now looks in a good condition.”
Rodgers added that his side have no fresh injury concerns ahead of their clash in north London. He continued: “Daniel Agger is back in the squad and it’s as it was really.”
The Liverpool manager also warned his side not to read too much into their 5-1 thrashing of Arsenal last weekend ahead of Sunday’s clash.
“It’s a different game, it’s a different competition away from home but I trust the players,” he added.
“We know it’s going to be a difficult game, there’s no question about that. But we came out of the game last weekend with confidence and belief.”
