Rodgers gives latest Liverpool injury update ahead of Stoke clash
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers reveals that Mamadou Sakho should be fit to face Stoke City on Sunday
Brendan Rodgers has revealed that Liverpool centre-half Mamadou Sakho should be available to face Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium on Sunday.
The France international hasn’t featured for the Reds since picking up a hamstring injury in Liverpool’s 2-1 loss to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on 29 December.
He [Sakho] looks fine to be in the squad for the weekend
However, Reds boss Rodgers is confident the 23-year-old, who joined in a £16m deal from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer, will be in his Reds squad for this weekend’s clash.
“We have players starting to come back – Stevie is back, Dan was training this week, Sakho trained today,” Rodgers told his pre-match media conference.
“He [Sakho] looks fine to be in the squad for the weekend. Jon [Flanagan] needs some time to heal, Jose [Enrique] is still out for a bit.
“A couple of wee niggles that we’ll have to look at over in the next 24 hours, but we’ll have one or two back.”
Rodgers confirmed that Liverpool vice-captain Daniel Agger is looking at a spell of three to four weeks on the sidelines after suffering a calf injury during their 2-0 victory over Oldham Athletic in the FA Cup on Sunday.
The Reds boss added: “Dan will be three to four weeks. He’s picked up calf problem.”
