Rio Ferdinand has admitted that he would love to see Cristiano Ronaldo make a return to Manchester United this summer.
The Portugal international has been heavily linked with a potential return to Old Trafford this summer after the recent speculation about his future at Real Madrid.
Ronaldo is reportedly unsettled in Madrid after he was accused of avoiding tax by the Spanish authorities and naturally Old Trafford has been touted as a possible destination for the 32-year-old.
However, it remains to be see whether a possible return to Old Trafford for Ronaldo remains anything more than newspaper speculation.
But former Manchester United defender Ferdinand admits he would love to see Ronaldo secure a return to Old Trafford.
Speaking to ESPN, Ferdinand said: “As a Manchester United fan I’d love to see him go to Man United.
“It’s fairytale stuff, this is the fans’ dream, fans have got to be allowed to dream.
“The best player on the planet at the moment, probably going to win the Ballon D’Or again, won the league and the Champions League, who wanted want that at their club?
“Just as an influence, let alone what he brings elsewhere.”
Manchester United are believed to be on the lookout for a number of new signings as they prepare for a return to the Champions League next season.
However, the Red Devils have so far only secured the signing of defender Victor Lindelof from Benfica.
