Ryan Giggs thrilled to see Man United open up 15-point lead over Man City
Manchester United veteran Ryan Giggs cannot hide his delight after helping the Red Devils move 15 points clear of their title rivals
Ryan Giggs could not hide his delight at seeing Manchester United open up a 15-point lead over Manchester City with Saturday’s victory at Queens Park Rangers.
Rafael and Giggs struck either side of the break to hand Sir Alex Ferguson’s men the three points as the Red Devils took another step closer to a 20th top-flight title at Loftus Road.
Defending champions City appear to have it all to do in the title race, with Roberto Mancini’s men set to host Chelsea at Eastlands on Sunday.
And Giggs, who made his 999th senior appearance for club and country in west London on Saturday, is thrilled with his side’s dominant position at the top of the Premier League table with 11 games left to play.
“We are in a tremendous position,” Giggs told BBC Sport. “We had to dig in today to get that important 15-point lead and we are really pleased.”
Giggs also singled out Rafael for special praise after the Brazilian’s stunning 25-yard opener set United on their way to victory.
He added: “We knew it was going to be difficult; they are fighting for their lives, so it was tough. But I have to say Rafael’s goal was one of the best goals you are going to see and in the second half we got better. He really deserves it, he’s been brilliant, really consistent, and it tops off a good season for him.
“At 1-0 you never know how it’s going to go, especially with the quality they have up front, but at 2-0 we kept the ball better and it was comfortable.”
