Ryan Giggs targeting a 12th League title with Man United

Ryan Giggs is determined to reclaim the Premier League title with Manchester United in the forthcoming season.

“My main aim is to win the title back,” Giggs told ManUtd.com. “United are always there or thereabouts, but winning it is the important thing and we want it back.”

Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti secured his first domestic title with a final day victory depriving Manchester United of a possible 19th Premier League title.

Giggs, 36, who himself has won 11 League titles at Old Trafford, believes Chelsea will be United’s biggest competitors once again but is aware of the increased threat from other improving teams.

“I think the league is going to be very competitive again,” he continued. “Teams have got a little bit closer together – those that were on the fringe of things have got better and caught up.

“Manchester City obviously have a lot of money to spend, Spurs did well last season, as did Aston Villa… so it’ll be interesting to see who’s in the top four at the end of the season.”

Manchester United are currently based in Chicago for pre-season training. While in America the Carling Cup holders will face Toronto, Philadelphia, Kansas City, Houston and Guadalajara.

Players at Old Trafford who were involved in the World Cup will not return to training until 28 July, and Giggs is hopeful that those present in South Africa will be ready for another competitive season.

“It’s always difficult after a World Cup because the players who have been involved in the tournament have time off,” he said.

“You just hope there’s no hangover from the World Cup and everyone can hit the ground running. Hopefully our players will come back refreshed and we can get off to a good start.”
