Sarri asked if he will call want-away Chelsea FC duo to convince them to stay
The Chelsea FC manager doesn't plan to call Thibaut Courtois or Eden Hazard
Maurizio Sarri says he would rather meet with Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois face-to-face rather than call the Belgian duo to discuss their futures at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues manager was unveiled to the media at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday following his appointment as Antonio Conte’s successor at the west London side.
Courtois has been heavily linked with a move to Champions League winners Real Madrid after the Blues allowed the shot stopper’s contract to run down.
Indeed, the Belgian number one will be available to sign on a free transfer next summer unless Chelsea FC can convince Courtois to commit to a new long-term deal.
Courtois is being linked with a £31m move to Real Madrid from Chelsea FC as a replacement for Costa Rica international Keylor Navas.
Hazard has been linked with a move to FC Barcelona and Real Madrid following their disappointing fifth-placed finish in the Premier League table last term.
Asked whether Sarri would call Courtois and Hazard to discuss their futures at Stamford Bridge, he told his first media conferance as Chelsea FC boss:
“Clearly the players you are referring to are very high-level players and I would like to keep them. But a telephone call without looking them in the eye will not give me any certainty.
“I would like to meet these players face to face and talk to them and understand what the best thing is for everyone to do. Before that I would also like a player to come on the pitch for four or five days with me to have a clear idea of what the plan is.”
Chelsea FC finished in fifth spot in the Premier League table last term to miss out on a spot in the Champions League.
