Schalke welcome back a familiar face in Hamit Altintop when Galatasaray visit Gelsenkirchen for the second leg of the clubs’ Champions League last-16 showdown on Tuesday.

Altintop spent four seasons with Schalke, his home-town club, while team-mates Hakan Balta, Engin Baytar, Ceyhun Gülselam and Furkan Özçal were also born in Germany.

Both sides have cause for confidence, with Schalke unbeaten at home in this season’s Champions League and Galatasaray looking to complete a hat-trick of away victories in the competition.

The Bundesliga club hold an away-goals advantage following the 1-1 first-leg draw in Istanbul.

Schalke have lost just twice in 16 home games in European competition since the start of 2010-11, winning 11 of them. Schalke also have a 100 per cent home record against Turkish opponents.

Galatasaray, meanwhile, have won more games away to Bundesliga opposition than they have done at home. Their record in Germany reads W4 D4 L5.

Julian Draxler marked his 100th competitive appearance for Schalke with a goal in Saturday’s 2-1 win against champions Borussia Dortmund. Schalke have won three in a row since the first leg, having managed a solitary victory in their previous 13 outings.

Didier Drogba missed a late penalty and Gökhan Zan was sent off three minutes from time on Friday as Galatasaray lost 1-0 at home to Genclerbirligi.
