Sergio Aguero, Rafael Benitez and Rafa Nadal offer their support to Tito Vilanova after Barça coach suffers a relapse of tumour

Tito Vilanova is to undergo surgery to remove a tumour on Thursday followed by chemotherapy and radiotherapy over the next six weeks.

The 44-year-old, who replaced Pep Guardiola in the summer, underwent an operation to remove a cancerous tumour from his parotid gland, the largest human salivary gland, in November 2011 but has suffered a relapse.

The world of football immediately united in support of the Barça boss on Twitter.

Manchester City midfielder David Silva (‏@21LVA) leads the well-wishers: “All my support and best wishes to Tito and all of the people in the world fighting every day against cancer. Be strong #AnimoTito!”

Silva’s team-mate Sergio Aguero (‏@aguerosergiokun) adds: “We support you, #AnimoTito! We wish you the strength to overcome this moment.”

Liverpool star Nuri Şahin ‏(@nurisahin05) offers encouragement: “All my support for Tito Vilanova. I hope he recovers soon!”

Sahin’s Reds colleague Suso (@suso30fernandez) hopes to see Vilanova back at Barcelona: “Courage to Tito Vilanova. I hope that the operation will be perfect and be back again with the team as soon as possible. Good luck.”
