Juan Mata states his prediction for Sevilla v Man United
The Manchester United midfielder is backing the Red Devils to secure a positive result against Sevilla in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 clash on Wednesday night
Juan Mata is confident Manchester United can secure a positive result at Sevilla in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 clash on Wednesday night.
The Spain international will be hoping to feature on his return to his native country as Manchester United look to reach the Champions League quarter-finals.
Mata helped the Red Devils to return to winning ways on Saturday evening thanks to a 2-0 win over Premier League rivals Huddersfield Town in the FA Cup fifth round.
The 28-year-old was part of the Chelsea FC team that won the Champions League in 2012 thanks to a penalty shootout victory over Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena.
Manchester United haven’t reached the Champions League last eight when David Moyes’ side lost 4-2 to Bayern over two legs in the last eight.
Liverpool FC failed to beat Sevilla both home and away in this season’s Champions League group stage to serve as a warning to Manchester United ahead of Wednesday night’s clash.
Mata stated his hope that Jose Mourinho’s side can secure a positive result at Sevilla ahead of the return leg on Wednesday 14 March.
“The Champions League is back and there’s a special atmosphere around here because all of us are really looking forward to having a good performance in this great tournament,” Mata wrote on his personal blog One Hour Behind.
“I’m especially excited about playing in my country again, at the Sanchez Pizjuan, a major stadium where the local team always gets big support.
“I hope that we can see a great football game, and that we get a good score for the second leg at Old Trafford, in front of our crowd.”
Mourinho has won the Champions League crown with Porto and Inter Milan in 2004 and 2010.
