Danny Welbeck insisted Manchester United were satisfied with a point after Shakhtar Donetsk scored a late equaliser to deny the Red Devils victory at Donbass Arena.

The 22-year-old forward opened the scoring for the Red Devils in the first half as United looked to become the first English side to win at Shakhtar.

However, David Moyes’ men were denied three points when Brazilian forward Taison capitalised on confusion in the away side’s defence to net a late equaliser.

“It was a decent result. We went ahead – got the goal early on – and we made ourselves really hard to beat,” Welbeck told Sky Sports.

“It was difficult for them to score but near the end they got their goal – and that’s the disappointing part.”

He added: “I don’t think many teams have come here and got three points. It would have been nice to get those three points but it wasn’t to be.

United are level on points with Shakhtar at the top of Group A after Bayer Levekusen secured a late win against Real Sociedad.

And Welbeck believes the Red Devils can be content with their European form after a disappointing start to the Premier League campaign.

“I think four points from the first two games is ok. Especially coming to Shakhtar and getting a draw.

“Obviously we’re disappointed as we’re Manchester United and we want to win every game but coming here and getting a point – we’ve got to be satisfied.”
