Sir Alex Ferguson hailed Manchester United’s “unbelievable” consistency after watching his side wrap up their 20th English league title with victory over Aston Villa.
A stunning first-half hat-trick from Robin van Persie handed United a 3-0 triumph at Old Trafford as the Red Devils moved 16 points clear of Manchester City with four games left.
“Our consistency for the last 20 years has been unbelievable,” said Ferguson after securing his 13th league crown with United.
“We have 84 points – at this stage of the season, we have never done that.
“That pedestal is there, players have joined that pedestal, and we have some outstanding young players.
“This club never gives in. From Sir Matt Busby, the Munich Disaster, to rebuilding and to win the European Cup, that tells you the history of United. Every player who comes to this club has to have that engrained.”
Defender Jonny Evans was delighted to help his side wrap up the title with four games to spare.
“It’s nice to get used to this feeling,” he said.
“It was a challenge after last year and thankfully we have it wrapped up. We have Arsenal, Chelsea and Swansea coming and they are tough games.
“We will be professional about it and we have to represent Manchester United.”
