Sir Alex Ferguson has hailed Manchester United’s “terrific” character ahead of their trip to West Ham United on Wednesday night.

The Red Devils, who are bidding to win a 13th Premier League title, bounced back from a disappointing derby loss to Manchester City by securing a 2-0 victory at Stoke City on Sunday.

And Ferguson was pleased to see the Red Devils show their spirit to win at one of the top-flight’s most difficult venues and restore their 15-point lead at the top of the Premier League table.

“I always say you don’t leave your character in the dressing room and I think we saw that against Stoke,” Ferguson told United’s website.

“The Britannia Stadium is not an easy place to go to and we had this swirling wind in the first half in particular, which was difficult, but nonetheless we had to find a way through it and we kept our composure. We weren’t over-anxious about the game – we kept playing the ball, passing it around.

“We didn’t make a lot of chances, but we’ve done that at Stoke over the last six years and made very few chances but usually won the games: a late goal from Tevez, a late goal from Hernández.

“The performance and the character the players showed was terrific.”

United need just seven points from their remaining six games to secure a 20th top-flight title.
