It’s a strong possibility! Sir Alex hopes Ferdinand will pen new Man United deal
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson believes Rio Ferdinand will follow Ryan Giggs's lead and sign a new deal

Sir Alex Ferguson says he is confident Rio Ferdinand will sign a contract extension at Manchester United.
The 34-year-old has rediscovered his best form this term alongside Jonny Evans and Nemanja Vidic, helping United build a 12-point lead at the top of the Premier League.
The former West Ham United defender’s current contract is set to expire at the end of the season and Ferguson is keen to tie down the England international for another season.
Ryan Giggs, 39, penned a one-year extension on Friday, and the United boss is hopeful Ferdinand will follow the Welsh veteran’s lead despite reported interest from the MLS and Far East.
“That is a strong possibility. It would have to happen before the end of the season,” said Ferguson.
He added: “I think he has had a great season.
“He has managed himself the right way and we have contributed to that in the preparation we give him.
“He doesn’t play every game in the same way that Ryan doesn’t play every game. But in terms of key matches he has been absolutely brilliant.
“Two weeks ago, against Real Madrid, he was excellent so we need to get him ready for the big one on Tuesday.”
Ferdinand has scored seven goals in 418 appearances for the Red Devils after joining in a record £34m deal from Leeds United in 2002.
