Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis has flown to Dortmund in order to complete a deal for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, according to reporter Kaveh Solhekol.

The Gunners are in the market to sign a new striker with Alexis Sanchez set to complete a move to their bitter rivals Manchester United in the next 48 hours.

Sanchez’s exit will leave a void in the Gunners team up front to force Arsenal to search out a new forward capable of replacing the Chile international.

Aubameyang has been talked up with a potential switch to Arsenal following a five-season stint at Bundesliga outfit Borussia Dortmund.

The Gabon international has scored 141 goals in 212 games in all competitions for the German club under three different managers.

While Aubameyang would certainly be a top-class replacement for Sanchez, the African forward’s temperament has been subject to scrutiny in recent seasons.

Sky Sports News reporter Solhekol confirmed that Arsenal are closing in on a deal to sign Aubameyang in the January transfer window.

“Staying with Arsenal, and developments in their attempts to sign Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang,” Solhekol told Sky Sports News on Monday morning.

“Dortmund say there has been an approach. Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis is in Dortmund. Aubameyang wants to move and negotiations continue.

“Dortmund want at least £50m and would also like Olivier Giroud as part of the deal.”

Arsenal were 4-1 winners against Crystal Palace at The Emirates on Saturday afternoon to put pressure on the top four in the race to secure a Champions League spot.

The Gunners signed Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette in a £52m deal from Ligue 1 side Lyon in the summer transfer window.
