Southampton 1 Man City 1: Manuel Pellegrini feels a draw was a fair result after his side are held at St Mary's
Manuel Pellegrini felt a draw was a fair result after his Manchester City side were held by Southampton.
Sergio Aguero gave the visitors the lead after 10 minutes at the Stadium of Light when he swept home Aleksandar Kolarov’s cross.
But the Saints fought back and Dani Osvaldo curled a brilliant finish past Costel Pantilimon three minutes before half time to equalise.
A draw today was well deserved and we’re a little bit sad too because we could have won
Mauricio Pochettino
The draw leaves City in fourth place in the Premier League table, five points behind leaders Arsenal, who travel to Etihad Stadium next Saturday.
“I’m pleased with the point because both teams deserved the point,” said Pellegrini.
“It was a very close match. It was the normal, logical result.
“We lost control. We started very well, we scored a goal, had a chance to score a second one, and after that we played too quickly.
“Southampton are a good team and if you give them the ball they have dangerous players. That was the problem in the first half and in the second half too we lost the ball too easily.”
Meanwhile, Southampton boss Mauricio Pochettino expressed his pride at his side’s display after they ended their run of three straight top-flight defeats.
“It was a very important point today, to end the bad results we’ve been on,” said Pochettino. “We’ve been up against it quite a bit with injuries. Psychologically today, to end with a result, was amazing for us.
“I’m always proud of my team. Despite the bad run of results we’ve been in, some of the results have been undeserved.
