Southampton 1 West Brom 0: Pochettino hails ‘amazing’ Boruc

Mauricio Pochettino singled out Artur Boruc for special praise after his side edged past West Bromwich Albion.

The Saints goalkeeper pulled off a superb reaction save to deny Shane Long a late equaliser after Adam Lallana gave the hosts the lead in the 66th minute with a calm finish.

And Pochettino, who watched his side win only their second game in 10 attempts in the Premier League, was full of praise for the Polish shot-stopper.

“It was a great performance by Boruc and it was a massive save at the end that really saved us,” Pochettino told Sky Sports.

“We know of his quality and we know how amazing he is.

“I think overall we were much better than West Bromwich today. I think we were the better team and the statistics proved that.

“Overall it was a good performance by our side.

“We have won against Cardiff [in the league] and Burnley [in the FA Cup] so it hasn’t been that long since we haven’t recorded a win. It hasn’t been that bad a run of results for us.”
