Southampton 4 Hull City 1: Mauricio Pochettino hailed an "outstanding" display as win hoists them up to third in the table
Mauricio Pochettino hailed an “outstanding” display as his Southampton side continued their fine start to the season with a commanding win over Hull City.
The home side took a 3-0 lead in the first half thanks to Morgan Schneiderlin’s first goal of the season, which was followed by a penalty from Rickie Lambert, before a brilliant solo effort by Adam Lallana.
Yannick Sagbo pulled one back for the visitors before Steven Davis made it 4-1 to lift the Saints up into third place in the Premier League table.
“I want to praise my players one more time,” said Pochettino. “They put in an amazing effort today, they’ve done very well and their performance today was outstanding.
“We don’t set ourselves any limits, we can do more. The sky is the limit.
“We can always do more and more. Every game we see as a final and we just want to keep on collecting more points.”
Tigers boss Steve Bruce conceded that his side were thoroughly outplayed in the first half at St Mary’s.
“The first half we were close to getting blown away but we stuck at it,” said Bruce. “Overall today we were just beaten by the far better team.”
