Harry Redknapp is backing Liverpool FC to ease past Southampton in the Premier League at St Mary’s on Saturday afternoon.

The Reds will make the trip to the south coast following their Uefa Super Cup triumph in Istanbul on Wednesday night.

Sadio Mane scored twice in a 2-2 draw with Chelsea FC after 120 minutes before Liverpool FC beat the west London side 5-4 on penalties.

The Merseyside outfit were forced to deplete their energy levels following normal time and extra-time in a pulsating clash in Turkey.

Southampton will be hoping that Liverpool FC’s exploits will ensure the 18-time English champions are feeling fatigued on Saturday afternoon.

Jurgen Klopp’s side were 4-1 winners against promoted side Norwich City in their Premier League opener at Anfield last week.

Southampton, on the other hand, suffered a 3-0 loss to Burnley at Turf Moor to make a poor start to their season.

Former Southampton manager Redknapp is tipping Liverpool FC’s attack to prove too much for the Saints defence on Saturday afternoon.

“After their heroics last season, Liverpool – much like Man City – look like they don’t need any time to find their level again this campaign,” Redknapp told BetVictor.

“The Reds had the game against Norwich wrapped up within half an hour in a blistering first-half performance. Goals from Salah and Origi, along with an Alexander-Arnold assist, told a familiar story, which isn’t a great sign for Southampton going into this weekend.

“The Saints collapsed at Burnley in the second half of their match and will require a huge defensive improvement if they are to stand a chance on Saturday.

“With Salah and co coming to St Mary’s, I’m not so sure they can keep the Liverpool attack at bay for a full 90 minutes. Then, there’s the challenge of breaching last season’s best defence.”

Liverpool FC won the Champions League in the 2018-19 season thanks to a 2-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in Madrid.

The Reds have now won two major trophies under Klopp following their victory over Chelsea FC in the Uefa Super Cup.

Liverpool FC are in third spot in the Premier League table.
