Southampton take up curling following Team GB’s Sochi bronze
Southampton duo Jose Fonte and Jay Rodriguez lend their hand at curling following Britian's women's Sochi bronze on Thursday
Jose Fonte and Jay Rodriguez have become the latest sports stars to be swept away by the current curling craze following the success of TeamGB’s curlers in Sochi this week.
Britain’s women claimed curling bronze on Thursday morning courtesy of a tense 6-5 victory over Switzerland.
Eve Muirhead’s final stone secured the memorable win, with her team made up of fellow Scots Anna Sloan, Vicki Adams and Claire Hamilton.
GB’s men can go one better than their female counterparts when they face Canada in the gold-medal clash on Friday.
David Murdoch and his colleagues have the chance to emulate Rhona Martin’s team’s famous triumph in 2002 by winning GB’s second gold of The Games.
And inspired by the success of Muirhead and company, Southampton used their changing room as a makeshift ice rink following training on Thursday, with defender Jose Fonte posting the video on Instagram.
Fonte posted: “Curling in dressing room!!! Olympics!!”
Whether Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino will be impressed by his squad’s curling skills ahead of their Premier League clash against West Ham United on Saturday remains to be seen.
