Michael Owen is predicting that Chelsea FC will come out on top in a high-scoring game at Southampton on Sunday afternoon.

The Blues will be looking to record successive Premier League victories for the first time under Frank Lampard at St Mary’s.

Chelsea FC secured three points in the Champions League on Wednesday night thanks to goals from Tammy Abraham and Willian in a 2-1 win at Lille.

Lampard’s side start the Premier League weekend a point adrift of fourth-placed Arsenal after having rebounded from a tough start to the campaign.

Chelsea FC have won their last two Premier League games on the road since a 4-0 loss to Manchester United at Old Trafford in their season opener.

Lampard’s men have notched up victories over Wolverhampton Wanderers and Norwich City, scoring eight goals in two games.

Former Liverpool FC striker Owen is backing Chelsea FC to emerge victorious in a high-scoring game against Southampton at St Mary’s on Sunday.

“Southampton will feel they missed a decent opportunity at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last weekend given the hosts played the majority of the game with 10-men,” Owen told BetVictor.

“The Saints have struggled for points at St Mary’s so far this season and I think Chelsea will edge what promises to be a terrific game. Frank Lampard’s side scored five at Wolves in their last league game on the road and I expect his young side to continue to go from strength-to-strength this season.”

Chelsea FC finished in third place in the Premier League table in their only season under the management of Lampard’s predecessor Maurizio Sarri.

The Italian head coach led Chelsea FC to glory in the Europa League before he quit Stamford Bridge to take over at Serie A champions Juventus.
