Sunday night’s 3-0 Confederations Cup victory over Nigeria saw Vicente Del Bosque’s Spain set a new record of 28 consecutive competitive matches without defeat.

The previous record was held by France, who went unbeaten for five years between September 1994 and March 1999.

Spain’s run began on 21 June against Honduras – just after their defeat by Switzerland in the opening match of 2010 World Cup South Africa although Del Bosque has lost friendlies during this time.
