Stoke 3 Liverpool 1: Brendan Rodgers says his side have "an awful lot of work to do" after slumping to defeat at the Britannia
Brendan Rodgers admitted his Liverpool side must find some consistency before allowing themselves to dream about a top-four finish after the Reds were beaten at Stoke on Wednesday.
Liverpool took the lead in the second minute, when Steven Gerrard netted his penalty after Ryan Shawcross had fouled Luis Suárez in the box.
But the Potters fought back as Jonathan Walters and Kenwyne Jones put Tony Pulis’s men in front within 12 minutes.
And Walters scored a spectacular third just after half-time to condemn Liverpool, who have never won at the Britannia Stadium in the league, to their third defeat in six outings.
“I said during the week and last week that [consistency] will be the biggest thing for the group,” Rodgers said after the game.
“We were terrific at the weekend [against Fulham] but you have got to be able to put a run of games together – if not you just keep taking two or three steps forward and making one or two back and then going again.
“That’s been the nature of the group over the last couple of years in terms of where we have finished. We’re looking to improve that. There is still an awful lot of work to do.”
Liverpool travel to Queens Park Rangers on Sunday as they look to return to winning ways in their next Premier League fixture.
