Sunderland 0 Aston Villa 1: Lambert thrilled to have ‘big players’ back
Sunderland 0 Aston Villa 1: Paul Lambert says he is thrilled to have his big players back after a win at the Black Cats
Paul Lambert expressed his delight to have his “big players” available after Aston Villa beat relegation rivals Sunderland.
The Birmingham side had Gabriel Agbonlahor and Christian Benteke both fit to lead their attack and the former broke the deadlock in the 15th minute at the Stadium of Light.

The England international capitalised on Lee Cattermole’s mistake and rounded Black Cats goalkeeper Vito Mannone before rolling the ball into the empty net.
And Lambert was happy with his side’s performance against Gus Poyet’s men.
“We now have everybody fit and we are a really good side when that happens. We needed our big players back from injury,” Lambert told BBC Sport.
“It could have been more than a 1-0 win, we had good chances so it could’ve been three or four. This is a hard place to come but I’m delighted with the result.”
Lambert confirmed that Villa would look to strengthen their squad in the January transfer window as they bid to avoid the drop.
“We will try to bring in people if it’s possible,” Lambert added.
“If we can get one or two experienced players in to give us a hand then we will try to do that. It could give us a lift in the dressing room if we can do it.”
