Swansea 0 Arsenal 2: Arsene Wenger says his side showed that they are up for the battle for a top-four finish after win in Wales
Arsene Wenger declared that Arsenal showed they are ready to “battle” for a place in next season’s Champions League after a hard-fought win at Swansea City.
After a goalless first half, January signing Nacho Monreal gave Wenger’s men the lead in the 74th minute with a low finish from inside the box.
And substitute Gervinho wrapped up the three points in stoppage time when he fired home Aaron Ramsey’s low cross after a swift Gunners counter-attack.
The win lifts Arsenal above Everton into fifth place in the Premier League table and two points behind fourth-placed Chelsea, who host West Ham on Sunday.
Wenger was thrilled to see his side secure another 2-0 victory following their win at Bayern Munich on Wednesday and praised the north Londoners for “giving everything”.
“It was a difficult game away to Bayern in midweek,” said Wenger. “The spirit we showed today was fantastic. We’re up for the battle.
“We are in a battle which is where we want to be – we want to win game. We won today because we gave everything to win.”
Arsenal host Reading in their next league game on 30 March, after the international break.
