Swansea 0 Man City 0: Roberto Mancini rues ‘incredible misses’
Swansea 0 Man City 0: Roberto Mancini says the Citizens missed "five incredible chances" in a goalless draw with the Swans
Roberto Mancini criticised Manchester City for missing “five incredible chances” after the Citizens were held to a goalless draw by Swansea at the Liberty Stadium.
Spanish striker Michu missed a simple opportunity to score his 18th goal of the season in the 19th minute before Wayne Routledge fired another attempt safely into Joe Hart’s arms.
Meanwhile, David Silva wasted City’s best opening of the first half before the interval, and Edin Dzeko failed to hit the target with the goal at his mercy in the 82nd minute.
“I think we played well and we deserved to win, but we missed five incredible chances. Nasri, Silva and Dzeko all had good opportunities to score,” Mancini told City’s website.
“I also think we should have had a penalty for a foul on Edin Dzeko, I don’t know why the referee didn’t give it.”
Mancini rubbished the suggestion that the Citizens produced a sub-par performance with one eye already on next weekend’s FA Cup final against Wigan.
“We were motivated to win this game because we want to secure the second position,” he added.
The City manager also played down concerns over Yaya Toure’s fitness after the Ivory Coast international pulled up in their pre-match warm-up and was substituted at half-time.
“Yaya had a problem in the warm up and for this reason we took him off after 45 minutes,” he said.
“But I think he will be OK for the cup final.”
