Swansea 1 Man United 1: Michael Laudrup hails a "very important" result for the Swans after securing a draw with the Red Devils
Michael Laudrup hailed a “very important result” for Swansea after Michu secured a point against Manchester United at the Liberty Stadium.
Patrice Evra gave the Red Devils a first-half lead when he glanced a header past Swansea shot stopper Michel Vorm from a Van Persie corner.
The home side responded almost immediately with Michu on hand to steer a finish past David De Gea after the United goalkeeper had denied Jonathan De Guzman.
United hit the crossbar twice in the second half but failed to trouble Vorm as the Swans took their first point off the Premier League leaders since being promoted.
“It was very important result, for a club like Swansea in only the second season in the Premiership,” Laudrup told BBC Sport.
“It was difficult and for the 10 minutes after they scored, we struggled a bit but we came back into it. They had the bigger chances, but we had the spirit and the players really wanted a result.
“We have to improve on set-pieces but it is logical. We don’t have many players of 6′ 5” it is something that you have to accept because of the way we play.
“It is important to get points against the top teams but for me it is more important to get things from the games against Wigan, Reading or Fulham.”
