Chris Hughton admitted Norwich City had to weather a second-half storm after the Canaries edged a seven-goal thriller at Swansea.

The visitors surged into a commanding first-half lead thanks to goals from Steven Whittaker, Sebastien Bassong and Grant Holt.

However, Michu and Jonathan De Guzman both netted to give Swansea hope of rescuing a result but Robert Snodgrass cemented the win for the Canaries in the 77th minute before conceding a late consolation.

“Swansea are a wonderful footballing side, and it’s obvious why they’ve had such a good start,” Hughton told BBC Sport.

“We didn’t do ourselves any favours conceding in that second half, but we showed great character to come back at them. We are in a period of good momentum and today we also had some good fortune.

“At 3-2 we had a real resilience, we weathered the storm, then we came back. I thought it was a fair result today, on the balance of play. We deserved it. Has this been overdue? Perhaps. We’ve been working hard for it.”

Meanwhile, Michael Laudrup was critical of his side for a poor first-half showing as Swansea suffered their first Premier League loss since October.

“In the first half we conceded three goals and it was not a very good performance,” said Laudrup.

“But the first half was as bad as the second was good. I think the players bounced back great. We scored two in 15 minutes and had a third one ruled out, which was a little harsh.

“But I don’t think we deserved to win today after that first-half performance.”
