Swansea 3 West Brom 0: We deserved it, says Rogers

Swansea City manager Brendan Rogers could not hide his delight after watching his side record their first win of the season against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.

The Swans, who had not scored a Premier League goal at the Liberty Stadium before Saturday’s clash, sealed the points thanks to strikes from Scott Sinclair, Leroy Lita and Nathan Dyer.

“Our performance level has been excellent,” said Rogers after the game. “I thought we were just missing that little bit of luck in one or two of the games.

“Overall the performance today was outstanding, against a very good team. Roy’s done a great job at West Brom and has got them organised very well.

“But for us to complete the performance by scoring goals and retain control of the game like we did was very, very good.

“It’s no more than the players deserve because they’ve been outstanding. It’s great to get those first three points.”

The home side took the lead from the spot after 14 minutes, with Sinclair scoring the first ever Premier League goal outside England after Paul Scharner clumsily brought down Joe Allen in the box.

And The Swans doubled their advantage nine minutes later through Lita, who applied the finishing touch at the far post after Sinclair nodded on an in-swinging corner.

The Welsh side then added a third in the 49th minute after goalkeeper Michael Vorm’s long kick was helped on by Lita for Dyer, who drilled a shot through Ben Foster’s legs.

West Brom boss Roy Hodgson had no choice but to admit his side were beaten by the better team on the day.

“We conceded the types of goals that we didn’t think we would concede,” said Hodgson. “There is no question in my mind Swansea were the better team today but I’m disappointed in the manner that we have lost.

“It was undoubtedly our worse performance of the season but I don’t want to take anything away from Swansea.”
