Paul Lambert described Jonjo Shelvey’s wonder goal as the turning point after Swansea were comfortable winners against Aston Villa.

Wilfried Bony put the hosts ahead but Paul Lambert’s side responded through Gabriel Agbonlahor as the striker guided Marc Albrighton’s inviting delivery beyond Michel Vorm.

It was a major turning point. Great finish, great vision

Shelvey put the home side back in front before half-time with an audacious long-range effort, with Pablo Hernandez and Wilfried Bony sealing three points for Garry Monk’s men.

And Aston Villa manager Lambert refused to criticise goalkeeper Brad Guzan after the Swans midfielder’s long-range effort beat the American goalkeeper.

“The second goal for Swansea’s a wonder goal. It was a major turning point. Great finish, great vision. I’m quite sure he could do that 50 times and the one that mattered went in,” Lambert told BBC Sport.

“There’s no criticism [of Brad Guzan] he’s been wonderful for me. I’ve spoken to him and I’m not going to stand there and criticise a guy that has been fantastic for me over the two years.”
