Substitute Danny Welbeck struck a second-half winner as Manchester United beat Norwich 1-0 to move up to sixth in the Premier League table.

The England international came off the bench following a goalless first half at Carrow Road and rounded Canaries goalkeeper John Ruddy to net the winner in the 57th minute.

The victory – United’s fourth league win in a row – prompted plenty of activity on Twitter from professionals past and present, and here are our favourite posts.

Ex-United defender Gary Neville ‏(@GNev2) tweets his delight as his former side take the lead: “Welbeck! In a good run of form! He’s changed this game”

United coach Phil Neville (@fizzer18) expresses his delight at the result: “Hard fought victory-2 away wins in 48 hours great effort from the boys!! Spurs news years day now!!!”

Red Devils winger Ashley Young (@youngy18) is thrilled with the battling win: “Perfect way to end the year with two wins in two days. Tough one today but great character again to see it out”

As is midfielder Tom Cleverley ‏(@tomclevz23), who played the full 90 minutes along with Young: “Boys dug in deep today and had to grind that one out. iPod in and on the way back now games are coming thick and fast!”

Former defender David May ‏(@DavidMay04) is impressed: “Good result for United today wasn’t the best of games but a wins a win 6 on the bounce!! Well done Danny great goal keep them coming !!!”

Ex-Republic of Ireland international Kevin Kilbane (@kdkilbane77) delivers his post-match verdict: “#manutd weren’t at their best but produced a win with Welbeck strike. Good signs for Moyes. Back 4 & De Gea brilliant.”

Former Norwich man Darren Huckerby (@hucks6dh6) acknowledges Welbeck’s cameo display: “Game changed when Wellbeck came on added some pace to Utd attack, we didn’t create anything clear cut 2nd half, big game at Palace now #Ncfc”

And finally, United defender Rio Ferdinand (@rioferdy5) keeps it short and sweet: “Come on boys! #Momentum #mufc”
