James Rodriguez would prefer to remain at Real Madrid ahead of a move to Manchester United this summer, according to reports in the Spanish media.

Spanish outlet Don Balon, as reported by the Daily Express, is reporting that Rodriguez would actually prefer to stay at the La Liga club despite conflicting transfer speculation this summer.

The same article states that the Colombia international is unwilling to surrender his lavish contract with Real Madrid despite the chance to kick-start his career at Manchester United.

According to the Spanish media outlet, the South American is currently earning in the region of £16m a year to make Rodriguez one of the best-paid 25-year-olds in the world.

Manchester United have been heavily linked with a move to sign the Colombian midfielder in the summer transfer window as Jose Mourinho looks to bolster his squad ahead of a return to the Champions League.

The Red Devils have only signed Sweden international Victor Lindelof in a £30.7m deal from Portuguese champions Benfica.

Manchester United won the EFL Cup and the Europa League in their first season under Mourinho’s management.
