Tottenham 1 Man City 5: Pellegrini’s men on a different planet – Sherwood
Tottenham 1 Man City 5: Tim Sherwood is in no mood to make excuses after his side are torn apart by the visitors
Tim Sherwood was in no mood to make excuses after watching 10-man Tottenham become the latest team to be torn apart by Manchester City.
Sergio Aguero fired the visitors into the lead in the 16th minute at White Hart Lane, before Yaya Toure doubled their advantage from the penalty spot after half-time following Danny Rose’s red card for a foul on Edin Dzeko.
They’re on a different planet to anyone out there. Once it went down to 10 men it just destroyed the game as a spectacle
The Bosnian added a third before Etienne Capoue pulled one back for Sherwood’s men.
Substitute Stevan Jovetic then netted his first league goal for City, before Vincent Kompany added gloss to the scoreline with a simple finish late on.
“It’s hard enough with 11 v 11 against this team,” Sherwood, whose side remain fifth and three points behind Liverpool, told BT Sport.
“They’re on a different planet to anyone out there. Once it went down to 10 men it just destroyed the game as a spectacle.
“We weren’t as good as them. Yes, we showed a lot spirit in trying to find a way to get back in it but once we went down to 10 men it just destroyed the game.”
Sherwood also felt that Spurs were unlucky to be reduced to 10 men and concede a penalty for Rose’s challenge on Dzeko.
“Referee Andre Marriner got the decision right himself, he thought it was a corner and I think that was correct,” he added.
“It’s a last-ditch tackle from Danny but he has to come in like that to reach the ball which he did, but it’s gone against us today.”
