Tottenham 1 Man United 1: Andre Villas-Boas felt his side were fully deserving of their point after Clint Dempsey's late equaliser
Andre Villas-Boas felt his Tottenham side were fully deserving of their point after Clint Dempsey’s dramatic late equaliser earned a draw against Manchester United.
United took the lead in the 25th minute in a snowy north London when Robin van Persie headed in his 18th Premier League goal of the season.
But Spurs battled hard and snatched a draw at the death when Dempsey scrambled the ball over the line in the 92nd minute at White Hart Lane.
The point keeps Villas-Boas’s side in fourth place in the Premier League table – and the Portuguese coach was delighted with a spirited display against the league leaders.
“It [the equaliser] was a big relief. I thought we dominated the complete game,” Villas-Boas told BBC Sport.
“We could not get in behind them a lot but had 15 opportunities.
“We have talented players and we gave them different problems, the team came out very strong in the second half.
“I think the boys have embraced the spirit that we want to be in the Champions League next year, and you need to amass as many points as possible.
“We wanted to win, but it was an important point in the end due to the form United are in. A point can give us a lot of confidence.”
