Tottenham 2 Norwich City 0: AVB praises Sigurdsson and Eriksen
Tottenham 2 Norwich City 0: Andre Villas-Boas singles out Gylfi Sigurdsson and Christian Eriksen for praise after routine win
Andre Villas-Boas singled out Gylfi Sigurdsson and Christian Eriksen for special praise after Tottenham cruised to victory over Norwich City at White Hart lane.
Sigurdsson scored either side of the break as Spurs began life without Gareth Bale with a routine win in north London against the defensive Canaries.
And Villas-Boas, whose side moved up to second in the Premier League table with the win, praised the Iceland international after an impressive display.
“Sigurdsson is a big fighter in this squad, always hoping for his opportunity to arrive,” Villas-Boas told Sky Sports.
“When it does arrive, he puts on performances like this. It was the same for him last season, in February and March. We saw his best level today.”
The Spurs boss was also impressed by Eriksen, who made his Spurs debut following his summer transfer from Ajax.
“Eriksen already has so much experience from Ajax,” said Villas-Boas. “He really linked the game well for us in the final third today. It’s easy for him to find his passes when his quality is so good.”
Villas-Boas, whose side next face a trip to Cardiff in the league, added: “It was an excellent performance. I really wanted us to put it to bed.
“The second goal early in the second half gave us immense tranquillity. I think we played really well, and created great moments of football.
“I think we probably deserved a couple more goals. After an international break, it’s always difficult to get the players back but they responded ever so well.
“Norwich is a team that we couldn’t win against last year, and this gives us good satisfaction because they are a very difficult team to beat.”
