Tottenham 3 Man City 1: Roberto Mancini at a loss to explain his side's second-half collapse at White Hart Lane
Roberto Mancini was at a loss to explain Manchester City’s second-half collapse after watching Tottenham mount a remarkable comeback at White Hart Lane.
City took the lead after just five minutes through Samir Nasri but were pegged back and conceded three goals in six minutes as Spurs boosted their top-four hopes.
Clint Dempsey levelled in the 75th minute before Jermain Defoe put Tottenham in front and Gareth Bale wrapped up the victory shortly after.
The defeat means that Manchester United can win the Premier League title with victory over Aston Villa at Old Trafford on Monday night.
“I cannot believe we lost this game,” said Mancini. “We had it under control and played very well for 80 minutes.
“This was our problem this year. When we had a chance we did not score, it is the mirror of our season.
“Instead, we did not score, and after, we did two mistakes.
“We had everything in order, it is strange. It is not a correct result, but congratulations to Tottenham for the win.
“We needed to win as we want to get the second position. We would have had a better life in the next week if we had won.
“We did not deserve to lose, we deserved to win. That is football.”
Manchester City host West Ham United in their next Premier League game on Saturday.
