Gary Lineker reacts to Tottenham’s 3-1 win over Real Madrid
The Spurs legend reflects on Tottenham Hotspur's historic 3-1 victory over Real Madrid on Wednesday night

Gary Lineker praised Dele Alli for his wonderful performance after Tottenham Hotspur were 3-1 winners against Real Madrid at Wembley.
The north London side welcomed the Champions League holders to the home of English football on Wednesday night in search of a return to winning ways following a 1-0 loss to title rivals Manchester United last weekend.
Tottenham secured a credible 1-1 draw with Real Madrid at The Bernabeu last month after Cristiano Ronaldo’s penalty cancelled out Raphael Varane’s own goal.
Spurs made the breakthrough in the first half thanks to Dele Alli’s close-range finish after Harry Winks and Kieran Trippier combined brilliantly to unlock Real Madrid’s defence.
The Lilywhites doubled their lead in the second half when Alli’s strike deflected off Sergio Ramos and into the Real Madrid net to put the hosts in charge at Wembley.
Tottenham put the result beyond doubt thanks to Christian Eriksen’s precise finish after Harry Kane teed up the Denmark international with 24 minutes to go.
Former Spurs forward Lineker celebrated Tottenham’s landslide win over Europe’s most-successful club at Wembley despite Cristiano Ronaldo’s late consolation goal.
Lineker wrote on Twitter: “Spurs take the lead against Real Madrid with a beautifully worked goal finished off by @dele_official”
He added: “Double Alli makes it 2-0. Surely Zidane will bring on Benzema now.”
Before he sent out a third tweet following Eriksen’s goal:
“Marvellous 3rd goal for Spurs. It is them in white and not Real Madrid right?”
Tottenham finished in second place in the Premier League table last season behind eventual champions Chelsea.
Spurs are looking to win the Champions League for the first time.
