A “positive” Andre Villas-Boas has predicted the tightest Premier League title races in its recent history ahead of Chelsea’s trip to White Hart Lane on Saturday.

The Tottenham Hotspur manager has led his side to second place in the table behind rivals Arsenal, who are the only side to beat Spurs in the top-flight this term.

Villas-Boas’ men currently boast the meanest defence in Europe after conceding just one goal in eight games in all competitions in the opening set of fixtures.

And the former Porto manager was keen to play down his side’s start to the season ahead of their London derby against Chelsea on Saturday.

“It can change very quickly. At the moment we’re on a good run,” said Villas-Boas.

“There isn’t any team on maximum points which means this year, it’ll be very tight at the top.

“We’ve seen Manchester United struggling for points but have played all top teams since the beginning of the season.

“We’ve probably have what could become tightest Premier League in years.

“What is happening to us now puts in positive mood. We just have to continue getting most amount of as possible.”

The Tottenham boss faces his former club at White Hart Lane in Saturday’s early kick-off, and the 35-year-old is desperate to continue the feel-good factor at the club – and keep pace with Arsenal.

“We’re enjoying our ride at the moment,” said Villas-Boas.

“Our start to the season has been excellent. It would be extremly good for us to continue to build on that against such an important team.

“Arsenal have a difficult game at Swansea and we would like to keep ourselves in the top, and for that to happen, we need to expect a slip but also try to get our points and see if we can go top.”
