Tim Sherwood believes that Tottenham Hotspur still have a chance of pipping north London rivals Arsenal to a top-four finish this season.

Spurs kept alive their hopes of Champions League qualification with a dramatic 3-2 comeback win over Southampton at White Hart Lane on Sunday, after Arsenal suffered a 6-0 thrashing at Chelsea the day before.

Last year we pushed Arsenal really close so who knows what could happen

The Gunners now sit in fourth place in the Premier League table, and six points above Spurs, although Arsene Wenger’s men have played a game less than their neighbours.

And Sherwood is hopeful that the dramatic win over the Saints can inspire an improvement in his side’s form.

“It was a massive, massive win for us,” Sherwood said. “It takes real guts, character and spirit to do that.

“We are going to try and accumulate as many points as we possibly can. I think we are a point behind where we were last year [at this stage] and we pushed Arsenal really close so who knows what could happen.

“It is squeaky bum time, time for the men to stand up and get as many points as we can.”
