Rio Ferdinand rates Tottenham’s chances of getting past Ajax
Rio Ferdinand has his say on Tottenham Hotspur's defeat by Ajax in the Champions League semi-final first leg
Rio Ferdinand is convinced that Tottenham Hotspur still have a big chance of beating Ajax to reach the Champions League final.
The Lilywhites suffered a disappointing 1-0 loss to the Dutch side in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final tie in north London on Tuesday night.
Without the likes of Harry Kane and Son Heung-min, Tottenham ended up losing to the visitors following Donny van de Beek’s goal in the first half at their new stadium.
Tottenham will now prepare for their trip to Amsterdam next week to take on Ajax in the return leg of their last-four tie.
And Manchester United legend Ferdinand seems to be convinced that the Lilywhites still have a great chance of securing a place in the Madrid final in June.
Speaking to BT Sport after Tuesday night’s game, Ferdinand said: “I think so [Spurs are still in the tie], 100 per cent.
“Their away form in this tournament shows they are capable of getting a result.
“It was professional and mature from Ajax. In the first half they played fantastic football.
“In Spurs’ defence, if you take 44 goals out of the side in Harry Kane and Son Heung-min, any team would suffer.”
Tottenham will first switch their attentions back to Premier League affairs and their trip to Bournemouth on Saturday lunchtime.
The Lilywhites are currently in third place in the table as they bid to secure their spot in the Champions League for next season.
They will then take on Everton at home in their final game of the season on Sunday 12 May.
