Tottenham Hotspur are leading the race to sign Celta Vigo striker Maxi Gomez this summer, according to reports in the British media.
The Daily Star is reporting that Liverpool FC and West Ham United had also been both interested in the 22-year-old – but they are now all but out of the running.
The same story says that Spurs are keen to bring in the striker as back-up to Harry Kane and that they held talks in London with one of his representatives recently.
It is claimed that Spurs are now ready to make a move to sign Gomez this summer, with the player understood to have a £43m release clause in his contract with the Spanish club.
The Uruguay international has been in good form in La Liga this season, scoring 13 goals and making five assists in the Spanish top flight for Celta Vigo.
According to the same story, Liverpool FC were interested in Gomez but ended up not following up their initial enquiries.
Meanwhile, Tottenham are currently preparing to do battle with Liverpool FC on the pitch, as they prepare for their crunch Champions League final showdown against the Reds.
Spurs will take on Liverpool FC in the final in Madrid on 1 June as they look to win their first major trophy under Mauricio Pochettino.
